Private health screening is a consumer term for paid preventive appointments that review aspects of your health when you may not have acute symptoms. It also covers common labels such as private health check, private medical check-up, comprehensive health assessment, executive medical and health MOT. These are treated as one broad decision pathway on MHI, not as separate pages for synonyms.
Private health screening is not one standard product. General assessments may combine medical history, physical measurements and selected blood tests. Executive or comprehensive medicals may add longer clinician review and wider testing. Imaging-led packages may include ultrasound, CT or MRI; Full Body MRI is one modality, not a synonym for comprehensive screening. Blood tests and structural imaging measure different things and should not be treated as interchangeable. Stored provider records also cover cardiovascular checks, cancer-related assessments, metabolic or hormonal testing, and longer-term longevity programmes. Not every provider offers every approach, and the same label can describe very different packages.
This is not the same as organised NHS screening programmes (for example breast, cervical and bowel screening), which follow national invitation criteria and UK National Screening Committee advice. It is also not the same as the NHS Health Check, a specific mid-life programme offered in parts of England for eligible age groups. Private packages are booked and paid for separately, and the clinic defines the tests, interpretation and follow-up.
No screening package can rule out every condition. Results reflect only the tests performed, normal results do not guarantee the absence of disease, and symptoms still need appropriate clinical assessment. Depending on the test, abnormal, incidental or indeterminate findings may lead to more appointments, cost and anxiety. More testing is not automatically more useful. A private package does not replace urgent, symptom-led or invited NHS care.
Before comparing price, establish what is actually included: consultation, physical examination, blood tests, cardiovascular testing, imaging, report and follow-up. Check how results will be interpreted, whether findings can be shared with your GP, and what happens if further investigation is needed.
