Privacy Policy
This policy describes the personal information we handle when you use The Modern Health Index (MHI), and why. It reflects how the site works today — not features we have not launched.
Who we are
The Modern Health Index is an online health information platform. We publish provider listings, treatment and condition information, evidence summaries and comparisons to help people discover and understand health options.
For privacy questions, contact us at hello@modernhealthindex.com.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use the site, we may process:
- Technical request data — such as IP address, browser type, device type, pages requested and timestamps — typically recorded in server or hosting logs so the site can function and be secured.
- Search and navigation activity — queries and pages you browse while using MHI. Today this is processed in the browser or on our servers to return results; we do not run a third-party behavioural analytics product on this site.
- Email addresses you submit — for example on a newsletter or waitlist form, if and when that form actually sends data to us (see below).
We do not ask for medical records, payment card details or account passwords on this site. MHI does not offer user accounts at launch.
Newsletter and form signups
Some pages include an email signup for editorial briefings or early access waitlists. Those forms are built so we can start collecting addresses when a mailing service is connected.
Until a mailing service is connected and live, email submitted on those forms is not stored by MHI on a server. When we begin storing signup emails, we will use them only to send the communications you asked for (for example editorial briefings or launch notifications), and you will be able to unsubscribe.
We do not use signup emails for paid advertising audiences.
Contact forms
MHI does not currently persist submissions from on-site contact forms. Pages such as Contact, Claim profile, Report an issue and Suggest a provider use a temporary mailto route: your device opens an email draft, and nothing is stored by MHI until you send that email.
If you email us directly, we will use the content of your message — and your email address — to respond and to keep a record of the correspondence where needed.
Cookies
Our use of cookies is described in the Cookie Policy. In short: we do not currently set analytics or advertising cookies. Essential cookies may be used only where required for the site to work.
Analytics
We do not currently use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or similar third-party tracking tools on MHI.
If we introduce analytics later, we will update this policy and the Cookie Policy, and we will describe what is measured and why.
How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Operate, secure and improve the website
- Respond to emails you send us
- Send editorial or waitlist messages you have requested, once that capability is live
- Comply with legal obligations where they apply
We do not sell personal information. We do not use personal information to provide personal medical advice.
Data storage and retention
Site content and infrastructure are hosted on cloud servers. Hosting providers may process technical logs (including IP addresses) as part of delivering the service.
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above — for example, while you remain on a mailing list you joined, or for a reasonable period if you contact us about a correction or complaint.
Third-party services
Today, personal data may be processed by:
- Hosting and delivery providers — to serve pages and keep the site available
- Font delivery via Next.js — we use the Manrope font through Next.js font loading, which is self-hosted with the site build rather than calling a browser font service on each visit
Linked third-party sites (for example regulator registries, research publishers or provider websites) have their own privacy practices. We are not responsible for those sites.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to object to certain processing.
To make a request, email hello@modernhealthindex.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
Children
MHI is aimed at adults making health decisions. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If how we handle personal information changes in a meaningful way, we will update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above.
